- Please prepare a 32-bar cut (approximately 1 minute) of a musical theater song in the style of Sweeney Todd. Sondheim selections are encouraged but not required. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided.

- A short monologue (1–2 minutes), preferably classical or heightened text (examples: Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, or Tennessee Williams).

- Callbacks will include readings from the script and may include additional music from the show. Some movement work may also be included.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9/12 to 11/7, and Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs for tech week between 11/9 and 11/12. All rehearsals are at the Burgdorff Center. Please note, we will work around conflicts as best we can and not everyone will necessarily be called for all rehearsals.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

We welcome performers of all races, genders, abilities, and backgrounds to audition. Character descriptions are intended as guidelines only; all roles are open to all qualified performers regardless of race, gender identity, age, ethnicity, or disability.

Sweeney Todd (Male presenting, 30s-60s, any ethnicity) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focussed on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist. Vocal range top: Gb4, Vocal range bottom: F2

Mrs. Lovett: (Female presenting, 30s-60s, any ethnicity) An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. Vocal range top: E5, Vocal range bottom: G3

Anthony Hope (Male presenting, Teens to 20s, any ethnicity) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. Vocal range top: F4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2

Johanna (Female presenting, Teens to 20s, any ethnicity) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward. Vocal range top: A5, Vocal range bottom: Bb3

Tobias Ragg (Male presenting, Teen, any ethnicity) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett. Vocal range top: Ab4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2

Judge Turpin (Male presenting, 50s-60s, any ethnicity) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd. Vocal range top: Gb4, Vocal range bottom: E2

The Beadle (Male presenting, 40s-60s, any ethnicity) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin. Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: D3

Beggar Woman (Female presenting, 30s-60s, any ethnicity) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret. Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: Ab3

Adolfo Pirelli (Male presenting, 30s-60s, any ethnicity) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past. Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: B2

Jonas Fogg (Male presenting, 30s-60s, any ethnicity) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers.
